Solar Power
How does it work?
Solar panels are made from a collection of photovoltaic cells, consisting of layers of a semi-conducting material such as silicon. When light shines on the field an electrical field shoots across the layers, causing electricity to flow. As generally wrongly assumed, the panels generate electricity by sunlight only, and not heat from the sun, so the more sunlight that is generated, the more electricity is generated.
What could I be saving?
A cost-effective feature of this system is that a two-way meter records how much electricity has been imported from the national grid, and runs backwards when the panels are creating electricity. Also any electricity generated can be stored in batteries for overnight use.
I want to get this. What do I do now?
If you want to go down the solar panel route, you need to choose what type of arrangement of solar panels you want to install, there are two ways of integrating panels onto your roof; above roof installation or integrated. Both options are as good as each other, and is normally chosen by the Client by preference to which suits the look of the building.
